We are a family whose lives have been enriched by dog ownership. We got our first dog, Polly, in 2013. She added so much more opputunity for our kids character than we originally expected. Choosing to add a dog to our family for companionship, we soon saw that she provided the opportunity to foster Responsibility, Perseverance, Loyalty, Dedication, Nurturing and Gentleness in the hearts of our children. Keeping in mind, also, the safety of our children and strength and abilities they had we knew we would need a family friendly dog that is smart and fairly easy to train, we also did not want dog hair everywhere.... We soon discovered that, while the breed has some influence on the temperment of the dog, the breeding and early raising are even more important matters to consider. Puppies that are well socialized before they go to their new homes at 8 weeks are less likely to exihibit fear or aggressive behaviors. In fact, according to The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, behavior problems, not infectious disease, is number one cause of death in dogs under 3years old! While there is certainly hope for these unsocialized puppies, they require more experienced, dedicated adults to address their behavior issues. We had no difficulty finding a healthy goldendoodle puppy, it was harder, however, to find a breeder that was handling the puppies daily. As we visited some litters we found them uninterested in us or even fearful. When we went to a breeder that had several kids that obviously loved the puppies, the difference was night and day. The puppies confidently walked up to us wagging their little tails, eager to meet us.
Our experience and love for dogs got me researching puppy development, breeding, and training. While still far from being an expert, I gained a lot of knowledge and inspiration to start my own breeding program.
Our puppy parents are well loved family pets as are our puppies for the time we have them. They are handled daily by adults and children, that are trained to be gentle, of all ages. They spend time with other dogs and introduced to farm animals, they go on car rides and spend time inside and outside.
